2021 Oscar Nominations Announced: ‘Mank’ Leads with 10 Nominations!

It’s finally here, ladies and gentlemen! Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas announced the nominees for all 23 categories for the 93rd Academy Awards, which will air live on Sunday, April 25 on ABC. After waiting patiently for a couple of months than usual, we’re celebrating the love film brought to people this past year. Like every year, you’re always going to expect the sudden surprises, snubs, and definite locks during the announcement.

Mank is the most nominated film this year with 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, but it missed out on a Best Original Screenplay nomination. But some of the biggest takeaway from this morning include Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) and Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) up for Best Director, the former became the first woman of color in the category, The Father getting that awards love back, which I need to see, Another Round director Thomas Vinterberg sneaks into that Best Director lineup, pushing aside Aaron Sorkin for The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Lakeith Stanfield for Best Supporting Actor for Judas and the Black Messiah. A surprise for a lot of us since we all assumed he campaigned for lead actor.

However, there were some surprising snubs that most would notice right away. For one, no Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (five nods) or One Night in Miami (three nods) for Best Picture and only eight nominees this year? Crazy. And Da 5 Bloods only received one nomination for Original Score but failed to get that Best Actor chance for Delroy Lindo, who has been robbed this awards season. But overall, I have little of a problem with the nominations this year aside from a few films that missed out. Check out the full list of the nominations below:
