Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Review

Eventually, there needs to be a movie during the summer season that needs laughs and hopefully become a surprise. But the trailer didn’t make me laugh just thinking this was gonna fail so hard. But without any excitement going into this, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates wasn’t that bad.

Based on the fact that this is an actual true story, the premise is actually funny to watch onscreen. The chemistry between Adam Devine and Zac Efron is good and both have dealt with comedy before with Devine working on Workaholics and Zfron in the Neighbors franchise. Also, Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick pretending to be nice girls to go on a free trip to Hawaii even though they’re the complete opposite worked as well with both girls are best friends in real life. Plaza was funny even though her character did really change.

And not being bias because I love her, but Anna Kendrick stole the entire movie. This is also the funniest she has been in a long time. And her character loves Rihanna. So it’s easy to say that’s a character I would date. Probably the funniest role yet in her career.

Where it has problems is some of the jokes, while hilarious, do go full raunchy or wasn’t that funny and it’s pretty predictable what’s going to happen but it’s one of those comedies where you have to believe is happening. But I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this. A lot of times I was laughing pretty hard as some scenes and joke were unexpected and flat-out outrageous in a good way.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates was a surprise not only as a good summer comedy but in general. This isn’t gonna be the next Wedding Crashers or anything, but this was hilarious with a premise that actually worked for what it was going for.
