Throwback List: Top 10 Worst Movies of 2014

2014 gave us some entertaining movies, didn’t it? But some of us were unfortunate enough to sit and watch through these horribles movies. What we have here are ten movies that either unnecessary or just flat-out embarrassing for them to release into the world and through our eyeballs.

Thinking about this list years later, I changed a few spots and forgot about a couple that originally had a place on here that ended up on my dishonorable mentions. Luckily, I was smart enough to stay completely away from Left Behind, Ouija, and Saving Christmas. The latter I just feel bad for the sorry souls who paid to see that.

Most of these made a ton of money, and a large chunk of them deserved to bomb at the box office. Take a look at what I believe were the top ten worst movies of 2014, in my opinion.

Dishonorable Mentions: The Purge: Anarchy, Into the Storm, Ride Along, Pompeii, Blended, Sabotage, Brick Mansions, Dumb and Dumber To, Tammy, Jersey Boys, This is Where I Leave You, The Monuments Men

10. ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ (Jonathan Liebesman)

I knew Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was going to be terrible just hearing Michael Bay was producing it. There was a chance this reboot of the well-known characters from the cartoon and original movies could be fun, and it wasn’t good whatsoever. Maybe some might find it entertaining, but this ruins everything that most loved about TMNT that provides no fun, bad humor, and offers nothing spectacular. And the casting of Megan Fox as April O’ Neil is still dumbfounded.

9. ‘I, Frankenstein‘(Stuart Beattie)

Does anybody remember I, Frankenstein? Even Aaron Eckhart doesn’t even remember being in it and he’s the only actor that was trying, even with that gruff voice he was doing. This Underworld rip-off takes itself too seriously with freakin’ gargoyles. What a vast, dull of a fantasy that should’ve belonged in the ’90s.

8. ‘Transcendence‘(Wally Pfister)

The fact that Wally Pfister was making his directorial debut that has Johnny Depp as a computer and it turned out to be very boring, that’s sad. Transcendence was poorly executed that wastes a talented cast and an interesting concept that was keeping me impatient as I was sitting in the theater on a weekday.

7. ‘Dracula Untold‘(Gary Shore)

What an awful take on a classic monster in Dracula Untold. Luke Evans did his best, but similar to I, Frankenstein, it takes itself seriously that felt rushed and unwarranted to make. This was Universal’s first attempt to start their monster universe and shot itself in the foot.

6. ‘Annabelle‘ (John R. Leonetti)

For a prequel that was the letching off the success of The Conjuring, Annabelle didn’t work at all. Talk about a travesty of a horror movie when it never got scary and has horrible acting from people that are afraid of a doll. Probably the worst horror movie I’ve seen for a long time where I was consistently bored.

5. ‘Sex Tape‘ (Jake Kasdan)

Poor Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel are in this disgraceful comedy called Sex Tape that was so not funny for a premise that could’ve worked. Why have an R-rated comedy that plays it safe and gets ridiculous when it tries too hard? My mom and I hated it walking out.

4. ‘The Other Woman‘ (Nick Cassavetes)

For those who actually like The Other Woman, how could you like these three characters? What I found worse about this unbearable comedy about revenge is that it makes women look bad. The Other Woman is painfully unfunny and uses its empowerment theme in the wrong way.

Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton in The Other Woman (2014)

3. ‘Annie‘ (Will Gluck)

Oh, how much do I hate the 2014 version of Annie? It was abysmal that I feel that it’s the worst remake to come out this decade. For a musical that’s been re-done multiple times, it’s cliché, annoying, and sickening. I truly felt bad for every person here, especially Quvenzhane Wallis and Cameron Diaz (her third appearance on my list). Hated the songs and everything else about Annie failed.

2. ‘The Legend of Hercules‘(Renny Harlin)

How did The Legend of Hercules made and got a theatrical release with a $70 million budget? Was Renny Harlin already a bad omen? The Legend of Hercules was such a trainwreck of a swords and sandals movie that’s incredibly bad in the acting and action department. Attempting too hard to like 300 and Gladiator, this shouldn’t exist. But it does turn out to be the funniest comedy of the year.

1. ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction‘(Michael Bay)

What else could my least favorite movie of 2014 than the three hours of depression that Michael Bay directed called Transformers: Age of Extinction. This was trying to reset the franchise, and you have no idea how furious I was while sitting there with my 3D glasses just thinking about my plane ride the next morning.

I expected nothing new from Transformers: Age of Extinction when I wasn’t going to be fooled into liking like by those disgusting trailers, and it’s the same thing that the previous three did! Capitalizing on loud noises, inconsistent action that’s hard to see, that Bay humor that’s never funny, and something I didn’t want to see for a summertime blockbuster. Shame on you, Bay and shame on you if you dare say you liked it.

The only thing I love about the entire movie was the end credits since it was set to Imagine Dragons’ “Battle Cry.”
