You know the kinds of movies where you know it’s supposed to be unrealistic, with this franchise now it’s believable. While the 2013’s surprise hit was good, this wasn’t one of those movies that really warranted a sequel, especially with that awful ending. Now You See Me 2 wasn’t really that magical. What’s to expect when the last you directed Jem and the Holograms.
We didn’t need to follow The Horseman (Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Lizzy Caplan) on another mission trying to help out Daniel Radcliffe. And that this point, these aren’t magicians, they’re superheroes doing this unbelievable magic where suspending disbelief is imaginable at this point. The plot felt kind of the same of trying to be like Robin Hood but trying to be bigger and better than it’s expected to be.
The cast still gives balanced performances like from Eisenberg and Ruffalo. Mark Ruffalo is the only one who really shines in both movies. He gets the most development in his character and you see why he’s against Morgan Freeman with his motivation. Caplan was annoying in the first half but she levels out around the second act. But she wasn’t an annoying character than Woody Harrelson’s twin brother who was obnoxious and shouldn’t be written in this.
This is also an insult to a movie with Daniel Radcliffe, about magic, and not having a Harry Potter joke in there. This sequel didn’t make any sense and the twist and turns that didn’t work taking itself serious sometimes.
Now You See Me 2’s magic trick was to be completely dumb and made me think why the original was actually good.
