Translating the work of Roald Dahl can be tricky on how it would be onscreen. From Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and Fantastic Mr. Fox all of them are good entertainment for children. Now Steven Spielberg brought the classic The BFG to our imaginations and it shows why he’s the best director working today. Mark Rylance’s motion capture performance as The BFG was outstanding really believable to think that’s actually a giant on screen. Ruby Barnhill as Sophie was really good. She’s charismatic for a child actor giving this the best young performers from a Spielberg movie since Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun. The writing is fascinatingly written by late writer Melissa Mathison (E.T.) that has enjoying and charming moments that’s steadily toned for a fun-filled Spielberg movie. Even the fart jokes worked. Surprised by that.
The BFG was charming and imaginative. Not one of Spielberg’s best but it’s quite enjoyable for anybody of all ages.
