In all the midst that was going on around the world, especially in the entertainment industry, we were able to get a few trailers out to be talked about on this week’s Trailer Catch-Up. We got three blockbusters, a documentary, and a lame comedy, As of now, we have no clue if any of them will get delayed like everything else? But I’m hopeful to say we will be fine from May onward.
Speaking of which, since certain movies are on hold at the moment, this means I have to postpone my upcoming rankings of the Live-Action Disney remakes, the Fast & Furious series, reviewing the Daniel Craig Bond movies to prepare for No Time to Die, and any Trailer Catch-Up’s if there won’t be any trailers released online next week. With that out of the way, shall we dive into this week’s latest trailers?
‘Black Widow’ (5/1)
First up, Marvel Studios released the final trailer for Black Widow, which has Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow. We’ve come to expect a new trailer for a Marvel movie early march when the film itself is scheduled to come out at the beginning of the summer movie season. This showcases new footage seeing the titular heroine going up against the Taskmaster, who gets to show off how skilled this assassin is.
Out of what we’ve seen so far, I think the first trailer was a little better, but I’m still stoked about this, even though there’s a slight chance they might delay it for what’s currently going on. Bad timing, am I right? From the look at the family dynamic between Natasha and her family, I sense the chemistry will be off the roof. Most people don’t think this looks good, but I ain’t one of them, thankfully. Those who aren’t looking forward to this either hate Johansson or just don’t care for female comic book movies. But the action looks cool, and Black Widow could make for an entertaining prequel in the MCU.

‘Jungle Cruise’ (7/24)
Next up, Disney released the new trailer for Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. Johnson plays a steamboat captain that takes Blunt’s character and her brother on a river ride to a magic tree in the middle of the Amazon jungle to search for a tree that contains healing powers.
These trailers have been impressing me just from getting a glimpse of the on-screen chemistry between the two stars and seeing some exciting action in the adventure these characters go on. The only thing I’m slightly nervous about is Jaume Collet-Serra directing since his track record is a bit of a hit-or-miss. That said, we could see the best movie based on a Disney theme park ride since the first Pirates of the Caribbean.

‘Soul’ (6/19)
Another trailer Disney dropped this week is for Pixar’s second original movie this year after Onward, and that’s for Soul. Pete Docter’s follow-up to Inside Out follows Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), a middle school music teacher and jazz musician who’s separated from his body and gets transported to The Great Before, a place where souls get their personalities before being sent off to Earth.
The first teaser got me hooked when it came out, and it seems to be another Pixar movie that puts a philosophical look at life and what we are meant to do with our lives. I love the mixture of 3D and 2D animation and show that both styles can work in great ways. I have a good feeling Soul will be the best-animated movie of the year.

‘Bad Trip’ (4/17)
Next up, Orion Pictures released the red band trailer for Bad Trip, the prank comedy starring Eric Andre, Lil Rel Howery, and Tiffany Haddish. This is a hidden camera comedy with a narrative about two friends on a cross-country road trip and pulling pranks in-between.
I talked about the first trailer on a previous Trailer Catch-Up (back when it was supposed to come out that fall) and thought it looked terrible. This new one does nothing to change my opinion on how unfunny this is going to be. Since this isn’t Jackass or Bad Grandpa level humor, you can’t have me conceived most of these bystanders don’t know who they are.

‘Beastie Boys Story’ (4/24)
And finally, Apple released the full-length trailer for their upcoming documentary Beastie Boys Story. Director Spike Jonze takes us on a journey about the rap trio and how they became famous decades later. I’m a huge Beastie Boys fan, so I’ve been waiting for a long time for someone to make a documentary about them, even if it’s just Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz. You better believe I will review this next month.
