In this special edition of Trailer Catch-Up, I devoted another entry for this weekend focusing on what exciting movie trailers came out of Comic-Con 2019!
Comic-Con is always the best time in the summer for studios to come down to San Diego to surprise their audiences with new footage from different movies that will please the crowds. Probably the one bummer about this year’s convention is the fact that Warner Bros. didn’t attend Hall H. They usually dominate each year to release footage from their films that are to come out the following year. So, those wondering where the trailers for Wonder Woman 1984, Joker, or Birds of Prey would be disappointed.
But as for this weekend, there were only a few to talk about, and they are worth it on the account of re-watching then multiple times. Now, let’s jump into what came out from Comic-Con, shall we?
‘It: Chapter 2’ (9/6)
The first trailer that was released on Day 1 of Comic-Con was for the second trailer to my most anticipated movie of September, It: Chapter 2. Once again, the sequel will follow the Losers Club 27 years later as they return to Derry to finally get rid of the evil Pennywise.
I tried to stay away from this because one trailer was enough for me to get excited, but I caved, and it still looks astounding. This trailer was SO great! We get to see tons of new footage and moments that are guaranteed to be creepy.
If It: Chapter 2 ends up being a letdown, who knows what will happen to me? Overall, September 6 can’t come any sooner!

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ (6/26/2020)
Do you feel the need, the need for speed? Well, Paramount Pictures released the first trailer to Top Gun: Maverick at the film’s panel on Thursday. The sequel to the 1986 hit follows Tom Cruise returning as the iconic Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he’s now training new recruits of pilots, which includes Goose’s son Bradley, played by Miles Teller.
From what I’m seeing just from this trailer, Top Gun: Maverick looks sweet! This doesn’t show what the story will be about, but it brings back some nostalgia along with some awesome cinematography. The rest of the cast includes Val Kilmer reprising his role as Iceman, Glen Powell, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris. I haven’t watched the original in a while, but when this is around the corner, I will re-visit it. We shall see if director Joseph Kosinski can make this sequel worth it. Am I’m also paying to see this in IMAX? Sure am.

‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ (10/15)
Next up, writer/director Kevin Smith has released the red band trailer for the long-awaited sequel Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, along with the release date (October 15, 2019). Jason Mewes and Smith return as the titular pot-smoking duo as they set out on a journey to Hollywood to stop the reboot of “Bluntman and Chronic” from ever happening.
Kevin Smith is the man, and I really enjoyed his earlier movies, especially 2001’s Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. And yes, this looks to be the same plot, but I think that’s what Smith was going for with this sequel. Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is supposed to be a self-aware take on how Hollywood keeps doing reboots and sequels to no end. Am I seeing this? You betcha!
This trailer is filled with classic references and tons of cameos that are sure to be entertaining, especially those from the View Askew universe. I really hope it’s playing near me when this comes out because I’m psyched to see this. Plus, I’m really hoping Smith makes a good movie after some missteps in the past few years.

’21 Bridges’ (9/27)
And on Friday, STX Entertainment released the second trailer for 21 Bridges starring Chadwick Boseman and produced by the Russo Brothers. The plot focuses on an NYPD detective on a manhunt for a pair of cop killers, and he takes measures into his own hands as he shuts down all of Manhattan’s bridges so they won’t escape.
I wasn’t that impressed when the first trailer came out a while ago. Now, I’m a bit more interested. Maybe this might be a cool action thriller that’s just there to be exciting and fun, especially with Boseman in the lead. 21 Bridges could be worth watching during the week when I don’t have much to do.
